ICANN coordinates the Internet’s unique identifier systems and participates in the global operation of the Domain Name System. An important aspect of providing this public service is to ensure the security and stability of these identifier systems. How ICANN intends to meet this obligation is described in its Security, Stability and Resiliency Plan (SSR). In the February 2010 issue of ;login magazine, I highlight the critical elements of this plan. I describe ICANN’s remit, the activities ICANN will perform directly, and activities where ICANN will be one of potentially many collaborative players.
USENIX is one of the enlightened publishers who acknowledge an author's copyrights to his works, so I'm able to make a download a PDF of SSR: securing the Internet’s identifier systems available here.
