Collecting personal, sensitive or even Top Secret data has often been no harder than bidding for used hard drives on eBay. Some studies estimate that one in three hard drives contain data that ought to have been destroyed before posting the drive for auction.
The risk is serious enough that eBay's published a guide to wiping hard drives to prevent identity theft. eBay's advice? "Use a program designed to COMPLETELY wipe all data from your storage device(s) using US Department of Defense Data Security Standards."
Those of you who don' t need the $5-15 and who think software is for wimps may want to consider a badass data destruction service.

Seriously, why settle for "securely" erasing data when you can hire someone to come on site to incinerate, disintegrate, or shred your drives into whatever sized particles you choose? And think of the funky costume jewelry you might make from the shards!
